Responsibilities

  • Assessment Skills:
    • Possess competent knowledge of all normal stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric.
    • Deliver patient care appropriately.
    • Perform thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Consistently demonstrate competent clinical skills.
    • Perform direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept.
    • Provide competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of documentation guidelines.
    • Assume primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient's progress toward meeting outcomes.
    • Document in the patient's chart including patient education.
  • Professionalism:
    • Demonstrate professional practice responsibility.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures.
    • Identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
  • Patient Satisfaction:
    • Consistently respond to patients, families, and co-workers in a professional, courteous, and positive manner.
    • Promote an environment where the patient and family is at the center and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goals and objectives.
    • Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Safety:
    • Consistently follow the National Patient Safety Goals including Universal Protocol.
    • Identify patients utilizing 2 patient identifiers.
    • Demonstrate use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
  • Unit Specific Job Function:
    • Demonstrate knowledge of conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients.
    • Individualize patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
    • Assess patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions.
  • Responsibility and Accountability:
    • Contribute to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care.
    • Prioritize the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.
  • Patient Education and Chart Completion:
    • Assess patient's understanding of surgical procedure/instructions.
    • Actively include the patient and family members in teaching.
    • Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessment and education.
  • Duties Specific to PAT RN:
    • Support the completion of patient testing in a timely manner.
    • Evaluate Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.

Requirements

  • Required Skills & Certifications:
    • ACLS – Required
    • BLS – Required
    • RN License – Required
  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
    • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree – Preferred
